The visual identity for the Black @ Facebook internal community, inspired by black art.

Black @ Facebook is an internal community at Facebook (Meta) that celebrates and elevates Black culture, creativity, and history.
In 2020, I was invited to design a new visual identity for the community across the EMEA region — a bold, expressive system rooted in Black artistic heritage and cultural pride.
This was more than just a branding project — it was an opportunity to shape how identity, community, and culture come together visually within a global tech organization.

A visual language inspired by Black art and creativity
To reflect the richness and diversity of Black culture, the design system draws from a wide range of artists and visual references. Among them:
-
The groovy, organic forms of Adrian Piper
-
Faith Ringgold’s geometric storytelling quilts
-
The energetic abstraction of Julie Mehretu
-
Basquiat’s iconic crown motif
-
The pattern work of Robert Colescott and Karabo Poppy
-
The saturated color worlds of Carolyn Lawrence
-
The contrast and conceptual layering of Xaviera Simmons
The result is a dynamic and vibrant brand identity—one that honors the past while celebrating creativity in the present.

A brand system designed for events and community-building
The Black @ Facebook community regularly hosts cultural events, including concerts, photo exhibitions, and creative workshops. My goal was to build a visual identity system that felt flexible and expressive across many formats: from printed materials and digital templates to event branding and custom swag.
I worked closely with the community managers to create a set of assets that allowed them to communicate consistently and confidently, while maintaining the bold personality of the brand.

– Brand visual identity
– Illustration and design system
– Event communications and templates
